Description
English, circa 1790. George III Sheraton mahogany and mahogany veneer breakfront, having a shaped cornice, four astragal glazed doors, painted upper interior, four blind paneled doors, and rising on French bracket feet, apparently unmarked.

Provenance: Hammer Galleries via Gimbel Brothers, New York; Collection of William Randolph Hearst. Paperwork noting that this lot is identified as LAL-8387 and correspondence accompanies this lot.

Note: Starting about 1930, with his companies facing bankruptcy, William Randolph Hearst (American, 1863-1951) was forced to sell off his legendary collection that was spread throughout the country in various warehouses. The collection was sold by Hammer Gallery over the decade or so through Gimbel Brothers and Sak Fifth Avenues department stores.

Combination of old and new glass - three panes are cracked, later painted and drilled interior, scattered breaks/losses to the case/moldings, wear to feet, key is lacking, two escutcheons are lacking, surface wear/marks, cracks to two lower right doors, case is structurally sound, piece breaks down into multiple pieces for ease of transport .
